    One week shy of ATIF’s fifth anniversary, the Board announced the appointment of an Interim Board to lead the Association in 2015.

    Giovanna Lester and Daniela Guanipa will take the helm of ATIF from January 1 through December 31, assisted by Maria Mallarino, Emmy Prieto, Dianna McCrary, Sylvia Korwek and Carmen Sáenz. You can learn more about our new Board by visiting our website (www.atifonline.org), under About/Board.

    The Interim Board was appointed to get ATIF ready for this year's elections, lead the organization back to its original Business Plan by aligning its growth, market reality and membership expectations, to receive the 56th ATA Annual Conference in style, among other things. The Interim Board has a one year term. Its members are veterans, former board members, as well as new individuals. The mix is intended to ensure continuity and insert new perspectives into our work.

    We believe in ATIF. We count on your vote of confidence and support of our Interim Board. ATIF’s commitment to its membership is reflected in the actions we take to ensure that the best interest of the members remains our main focus.

  • Int’l Medical Interpreters Association & ATIF

    I hope that the IMIA and ATIF can work side by side in a collaborative way so that each promote each other's work and IMIA can serve as a resource to ATIF members that specialize in medical interpreting just as ATIF can serve as a resource to IMIA Florida members that want to broaden their horizons. Winning Parterships: ATIF/IMIA/JMH and ATIF/FIU

Partnerships that bring results are everyone’s goal. Achieving that is a dream come true.

Working together with Izabel Arocha and Habib Serrano (IMIA), and Sonia Martinez (JMH) ATIF helped organize IMIA’s First National Interpreters Administrators Symposium at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. It was a 2-day event (March 18-19) that attracted professionals from all around the country. Maybe the best way to gauge the Symposium’s success is the reaction of attendees who left asking about the “next one,” and the fact that a Second National Interpreters Administrators Symposium is already schedule to take place at the University of California in Irvine, in 2012.

The Symposium afforded us the opportunity to make closer contact with Julio Mariaca, from the Glades Initiative, and Habib Serrano, IMIA’s Florida Representative. We are discussing more events around the State of Florida, geared to community interpreting, medical interpreting and translation.

We are very thankful to our volunteers:  Martine Douge, Linda Dunlap, Manuel Escamilla, Rebecca Lester, Gloria Rodriguez and specially Ofelia Sorzano. You made the difference!

Sunday, March 20, ATIF held a 4-hour workshop on consecutive interpreting in the legal setting. The workshop was lead by Dr. Michael Powers at FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus. FIU’s Translation and Interpretation Program is a de facto supporter  and sponsor of ATIF and facilitated the venue for the event. Mike’s workshop was a huge success and drew professionals from many areas of the State. The workshop granted 4.6 Continuing Interpreter Education credits for the Florida Courts and 4 ATA Continuing Education Units.

Attendees left asking for more quality workshops on note-taking techniques and medical translation and interpreting. ATIF has already started conversations on the topics – more news on the subject coming in our newsletter .

ATIF’s next scheduled workshops are May 1st – Software Tips for Translators, May 21st – ATA Certification Exam Prep, and on June 21st we will be holding an ATA Certification Exam.
